Job Summary:

As a QA Manager for 31st Union, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the highest quality standards for our gaming projects. You will oversee our internal Development QA team, work closely with Functional QA teams, and their leadership to ensure seamless quality assurance processes. Your expertise will drive the evolution of existing procedures and the development of innovative practices and structures. Managing a dedicated Dev QA team, you will be the cornerstone of ensuring our games meet and exceed the high expectations of our players.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategy: Provide visionary leadership for the QA department, setting clear objectives, and ensuring alignment with the studio's overall goals. Develop and implement a strategic QA framework that integrates with the development lifecycle seamlessly.
  • Process Optimization: Evaluate and evolve existing QA processes and procedures. Devise and implement new methodologies to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and adaptability in QA practices.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a small team of Development QA staff. Foster a collaborative and empowering team environment that encourages growth, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Serve as the primary liaison between the QA department and other functional teams, including Development, Production, and External QA partners. Ensure clear, effective communication across teams to facilitate the timely resolution of quality issues.
  • Quality Assurance Oversight: Oversee all aspects of quality assurance, including test plan creation, execution, defect tracking, and reporting. Ensure the highest quality standards are maintained throughout the game development cycle.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the QA department. Leverage data and feedback to drive decisions and improve QA processes and team performance.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Provide comprehensive reporting on QA activities, progress, and key metrics to studio leadership. Use data analysis to inform strategic decisions and process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Game Design, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in QA within the video game industry, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing QA teams and processes in a dynamic development environment.
  • Deep understanding of quality assurance techniques, tools, and trends.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a knack for problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Experience with QA automation tools and practices is a plus.
  • Passion for video games and a commitment to quality.

The pay range for this position in California at the start of employment is expected to be between $91,000 and $115,000 per year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an 'at-will position' and the company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
